The CertHE in Healthcare Practice is a course designed for those who want to pursue a career in healthcare. This programme provides a recognised qualification at level five, giving you the knowledge and skills needed for various healthcare roles.
Our course focuses on delivering person-centred and compassionate care. You will learn how to provide effective support in different healthcare settings. The curriculum covers key aspects of healthcare, including integrated working, evidence-based practice, and professional development. You will also explore important biological, social, and psychological concepts and theories that underpin healthcare practice.
The CertHE Healthcare Practice is ideal for those looking to enhance their qualifications before applying for a degree in healthcare. This course increases your chances of being accepted into your preferred degree programme. You will continue to apply for your chosen degree while studying with us, and you can leave our course at the end of the first or second year once you secure your place in a degree programme.
In your first year, you’ll build a strong foundation in human anatomy, health and wellbeing, and healthcare in Wales. You’ll also begin to develop essential academic, professional, and personal skills that will prepare you for a career in health and social care.

The University has partnered with Trinity Nursing Services, a national nursing and care agency, in order to secure free training at health care support worker level, a priority induction service, and most importantly, the opportunity to work as paid agency nursing assistants across Wales.
Staff provide careers guidance for learners, as well as offering a seamless progression route for our nursing students onto any other course offered within the wider portfolio.
For those who progress onto NHS bursary courses, paid employment, or other courses within UWTSD, we have worked with internal professional services staff colleagues to streamline the process.
